To check the size of your desktop, right click on your desktop wallpaper, select "Properties" then click on "Settings". The size of your desktop will be shown in the bottom right hand corner in the section called "Screen area".

Click on the numbers beside the picture which are the same as the size of your desktop. A new window will then appear and the images you selected will appear in the window. Right click on this image and select "Set as Wallpaper". The image will then appear as your computer's wallpaper image.
