Never Again

By Ashley

Chapter 2

Monday, just after noon, Justin hovered outside the classroom where Alyssa was sitting at her desk, pen tapping softly on her paper, occasionally making a mark on the paper as she listened to students read their short stories out loud to the class.

Justin shifted from one foot to the other as he impatiently waited for Alyssa to look towards the door, which she hadn't for the last 20 minutes he had been there. And during those twenty minutes, nineteen and a half of them had been the same girl who had been reading her 'short' story. The students who hadn't fallen asleep already, occasionally gave him a curious glance, but their teacher didn't even know he was there.

Justin assumed she also was bored to death by the girls story, as the brief comments had become less and less, and her gaze was more on what was outside the window, than intent on listening to the story. Her chin rested in the palm of her hand, with her elbow propped on the desk, she slowly twisted her honey blond hair around her finger as she watched the clouds in the sky.

Getting more and more inpatient by the minute, Justin's sudden movement caught the girl's eye who was reading, and she looked up from her story. Alyssa, proving that she hadn't been listening, suddenly woke from her day dream, "Thank you for sharing-"
"Miss Adamson, someone is out in the hall." The girl informed her, starring pointedly at Justin. Alyssa's gaze followed hers until her eyes fell on Justin, they narrowed in what Justin was sure was anger. But he just gave his charming smile, and winked in her direction.

Justin was aware that his smile caused more than half of the girls in the class to melt, but Alyssa's blue eyes remained pure ice.

"Keep reading Stephanie." Alyssa told the girl, and Justin wondered if it was a way of dismissing him, until Alyssa got up form the desk and moved to the door. Justin moved farther away from the door, and Alyssa followed him away from her classroom door before she spoke.

"I'm not sure, but I think that stalking is illegal in the state of Massachusetts, Mr. Timberlake. Now WHAT are you doing here?!"
"Well," Justin drawled slowly, "I figured that it might be about lunch time at Adams High school, and a certain teacher might want to go to lunch with me."
"NO!" Alyssa shook her head fiercely, "I don't! Leave me alone!" She whirled around towards her classroom, but Justin grabbed her wrist.

Justin felt her entire body tense at his touch, and she seemed to freeze, he released her wrist, "Alyssa-"
But their conversation was broken short by another teacher coming out of his class room, "What is going on out here?"
"Nothing Jake." Alyssa told him with a perfected fake smile.
"Are you alright Alyssa?" Jake' asked coming towards the two of them.
Alyssa shot Justin a death glare, "Actually, I would be much better if he was gone."
Jake looked towards Justin, and if Alyssa's glare had been deadly, Jake's was ten times worse. "Can I help you?"
"No, I just want to talk to Alyssa." Justin told him.
"Well, apparently she doesn't want to talk to you."
Before Justin could reply, an older man with salt and pepper hair turned into the hall, "Is there a problem?" He asked with authority, and Justin was going to go out on a limb and assume he was the principal.
"No Principal Smith." Alyssa said quietly.
"No Sir." Jake answered.
"Then I suggest, Miss Adamson, and Mr. Jensen, that you get back to your classes." He then turned to Justin, "And you, Mr...?"
As Justin was about to answer, Alyssa jumped in, surprising them all, though none more than Justin, "Larson. Mr. Jay Larson."
"Well then, Mr. Larson, could you please follow me."
"Yes sir." Justin answered meekly.

Alyssa almost giggled at the sight, Twenty-four year old Justin Timberlake, the golden boy of the Pop world when he would have been in high school, was getting sent to the Principals office. His head was down, hands in his pockets, and he just kept shaking his head back and forth in confusion.

For the rest of the day, through the boring stories, and even the amazingly imaginative stories, she had been staring out the window, seeing pictures in the clouds. Her students, who were so used to seeing their young teacher so into their stories, (Most of them at least) wondered what had happened to her. But few would have come up with the story of their Miss Adamson day dreaming of the curly haired singer named Justin Timberlake. And just to be fair, no one was more furious than Alyssa for acting the way she was.

Alyssa left her apartment at 3:15, and took the elevator down to the parking garage under the building, but when she reached her car, she wasn't prepared for the shock of seeing Justin......Again. He was leaning against the passenger side of her car, with his arms folded across his chest, and with that stupid, maddenning, irritating, infuriating, annoying, and... and, and charming, grin of his.

"What are you doing here?" Second time today.
Justin shrugged, "I figured you'd show up sometime."
"May I remind you once again that stalking is illegal in Massachusetts?"
"It is?" Justin asked in curiosity. "Hmmm...You weren't sure about that earlier, I'm glad you checked it out for me."
"What are you doing here!?" She asked him for the third time that day.
"Well, actually," Justin began his explanation, "I really want to thank you for that scene at the school today. I never had the chance to be sent the principals office when I was in school." Justin paused, and he didn't miss her quiet, "Neither did I." But he chose to ignore it. "But now thanks to you I can say I have had the experience. I owe you one Alyssa."
"You are still here, aren't you?" Alyssa asked unlocking her car door.
Justin just grinned bigger, "My favorite part was when Mr...Mr. Smith...That's what you said his name was right? Well, anyway, when he...what were his words?...oh yes,I was the scum of civil society for trying to do who knows what to a nice girl like Alyssa Adamson, who I call Ashley...he didn't say that, I did." Justin paused, then looked at her with that completely annoying, and completely adorable grin. "Are you a nice girl, my Ashley?"

Alyssa slammed the door shut and started her car to block out any more words. But before she put the car in reverse, she looked over to the passenger door, where Justin still leaned against it.

She gave an exasperated sigh, and rolled the window down. "Are you getting in?" She asked him after a minute.
"Yep." He said with that grin, as he opened the door and climbed in. Once out on the street, Justin asked, "So where are we going, Ashley?"
Alyssa didn't answer, in fact she pretty much ignored him as they drove, but Justin felt sure they were making improvement. It wasn't until they headed into down town, that a thought hit him. "Your not taking me to the police station, are you?"
A ghost of a smile lit up Alyssa's face, "No, I'm not taking you to the police station.....YET." She paused, "We're going to pick up Meghan from school."
"And then?" Justin asked, but Alyssa went back to ignoring him. He looked around the car, probably what he would have expected of her. The car was clean, in back was her lap top, papers stacked on top of it, student papers probably, judging from the red pen marks on the papers. But something did catch his eye, that was more like the Alyssa he thought she was, sitting between the bucket seats was a CD holder. "Can I look at them?" Justin pointed to the case, and Alyssa gave a slight nod.

Justin flipped through the case, he found everything from Britney Spears, Christiana Aguilera, Backstreet Boys, O-Town, to Faith Hill, Shania Twain, and George Straight. Then he found what he was looking for, Nsync CD's. All of them. Flipping past the Nsync CD's he found his CD's. From 'Justified' to the last one he had produced.

"So Meghan wasn't lying?" Justin asked her, the CD case open to 'Justified'.
"It's the stupidest name for a CD." Alyssa told him in harsh honesty.
"Thank you, at least your honest." Justin said with a small laugh.
"I wouldn't be anything besides that."
"I wouldn't expect any less of you." Justin told her honestly. "You listen to it?"
"I have." She gave him a side look, then a small smile, "Never Again."
"Like I Love You?"
She shook her head, "Cry Me a River."
(If your completely lost, sorry bout that, but the last three lines are all songs from Justin's CD Justified.)
Justin laughed at her answer, "Okay, so now I might be able to believe Meghan. What about Britney?"
"The CD or the person?" Alyssa clarified.
"CD first." Justin said quickly.
"Um...Lonely."
"Slave for you?"
"No...I'd say, Let Me Be."
Justin looked offended, "Are you trying to give me a hint Ashley?"
"Uh huh." Alyssa laughed; Justin decided he liked to make her laugh.
"Which one is really your favorite?"
Alyssa was quiet before she answered, "Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman." She answered finally. Then she gave a true smile, "Or 'What It's Like To Be Me'."
"I tell you, it's a good song!" Justin insisted, and she laughed again.
"Okay, now the person?" He was referring to Britney Spears, but he knew she knew that.
But before his question was answered, they turned into a school parking lot, and Meghan ran towards her Aunts car. Alyssa looked towards Justin, "Misunderstood. And no more, Meghan is coming. Her favorite CD is Myra."

Subject closed. Timberlake, you better think of some way to convince her your not really a stalker, or she may decided to take you to the police station anyway.

"Justin!" Meghan shouted when she had climbed into the backseat. "What are you doing here?"
Justin turned around to face the little girl, "I came to see you of course."
Meghan just giggled at his comment.
She's already fallen for his charm! Why did I let him come with me!? Why did I let him even get to me?
"So Meghan," Justin continued to talk to the backseat, "Are you going to finish telling me the story about Ashley?"
Meghan shrugged, "What do you want to know?"
"I don't know. Who is Ashley's favorite singer?"
"Britney Spears!" Meghan answered in that all knowing six year old voice.
Note to self; do not mention ANYTHING bad about Britney around Alyssa. Better yet, just don't talk about her.
"Have you ever met Britney Spears?" Meghan asked.
So much for that idea.
"Meghan," Alyssa said to the girl, "Don't you remember that Justin used to date Britney Spears?"
"Oh yeah." Meghan said, and apparently that was all the answer she needed.
'Thank you' Justin mouthed when Alyssa looked towards him.

Alyssa pulled her car in front of a house, "Nicole's daycare." She told Justin, then she turned to Meghan, "Run and get you sister, and don't forget her car seat."
Meghan obeyed immediately, and left Alyssa and Justin alone in the car once again. "Why do you watch them everyday?" Justin asked curiously.
Alyssa shrugged, "I feel better when they are with me instead of home alone or at a strangers house. Both their parents have to work, so I help them out."
"That's very nice of you." Justin commented.
"It's very nice of you to open doors all day for people too." Alyssa commented sarcastically.

Justin would have replied, but Meghan had opened the door then, and Alyssa helped the six year old put the car seat and her sister into the back seat of the car. Meghan did most of the talking as they drove, she told about her life in the second grade. It sounded more like a Soap Opera than a school to Justin.

"Meghan," Alyssa interrupted the girl, stopping her one sided conversation, "Do you have your books?"
"Yeah." Meghan answered reluctantly.
"Did you practice?"
"Yeah." Meghan answered, slightly unsure. She changed her answer at her Aunt's look, "Well...Kinda...Um, no." She shook her head.
As she finally gave the real answer, Alyssa pulled up to a white house, "Your going today." Alyssa told her, stopping all the girls protests.
"Where is she going?" Justin asked.
"Piano lessons." The girl answered glumly.
"You play the piano?" Justin asked.
"Uh huh." Meghan nodded excitedly, "I take lessons from the same teacher as Aunt Alyssa."
"Oh really." Justin tucked this new fact away for the moment, "Well, you will have to play for me later."
"Okay!" Meghan seemed more excited to go to her lessons now.
"Meghan, your mom will be picking you up from lessons today, she's getting off early for the work party tonight."
"Oh yeah," Meghan nodded, "Are you baby-sitting us tonight?" She asked hopefully.
"Not tonight. But I'll see you tomorrow, okay?"
"Why not tonight?" Meghan asked.
Alyssa glanced at Justin before answering, "I have a date."
"With who?!" Meghan asked, and neither Alyssa or Justin missed the excited tone in Meghan's voice as she looked towards Justin.
"Jake." Alyssa answered quickly.
"I don't like Jake."
Neither do I. Was what both Alyssa and Justin wanted to say, but both kept their thought to themself.
"Jake is very nice Meghan. Your going to be late, I'll see you tomorrow."
"Okay." She answered glumly.
"Have fun Meghan." Alyssa told her as the girl closed the door.
"You play the piano?" Justin asked her with interest as she pulled into the street.
"I used to." Alyssa answered as she headed towards her apparent building.

They were quiet until Alyssa parked her car in a parking space in the parking garage, and opened her door. Justin opened the back door, and pulled Nicole out of her car seat, the little girl giggled, and talked surprisingly well for her age.

"Cake song!" She demanded, and Justin turned to Alyssa for the meaning of the sentence.
"What's 'Cake song'?" He asked.
"She want's you to sing it to her." Alyssa told him, smiling as she pulled her laptop and papers from the backseat.
"Patty Cake?" Justin asked as the little girl still demanded the 'cake song.' Alyssa just shrugged with a smile, and so Justin decided to try it. "Patty cake, patty cake"
"NO!" The little girls shrill voice echoed though the garage.
"Okay, not that one, I assume." Justin glanced towards the laughing Alyssa.
Nicole turned to her aunt also, "Cake song, Aunt Lyssa." She said sadly.
"Come here Nicole," Alyssa set her things on the car and took the baby from Justin's arms.
"Cake song!"
"Alright," Alyssa agreed, "But you have to help me, Okay?" Nicole nodded excitedly.
Alyssa just said the words softly, as Nicole sang them in her out of tune, child like voice;

"Some one left the cake out in the rain.
I don't think I can take it,
took so long to bake it,
and I'll never have the recipe again."

"That's not a song." Justin shook his head.
"Cake song!" Nicole insisted, and she moved to push Justin away.
"Nicole, don't hit." Alyssa insisted, she gave Justin a side glance, "Besides, he's just the doorman, what does he know about music? He should probably get back to his work now."

Alyssa dismissed him, as she and Nicole went up the elevator to her apartment, and Justin went back to holding the door open, but it wasn't in vain this time. Alyssa, or Ashley, or whatever she wanted to be called, had talked to him without that ice queen tone, and he was going to make sure that tone didn't return.

Skye got back later that night, and she had expected Alyssa to still be gone on her date, so she was doubly surprised, and shocked speechless when she saw her room mate sitting at the table with a puzzle in front of her.
"Alyssa, WHAT are you doing?"

Alyssa ignored her, as she picked pieces out form the puzzle that Skye realized was the Nsync puzzle that the two friends had practically memorized when they were younger.

Skye winced when Alyssa slammed the puzzle piece into the puzzle, "Your so conceited!" She said as her hand hit the table.

Skye moved closer, and saw that her friend was putting all the pieces in the picture of Justin Timberlake, Alyssa slammed another piece in, "Your overconfident!"
Another one, "And you sing like a girl!"
"Are you done?" Skye asked seeing it was the last piece.
"No." Alyssa looked up at her, "This is only the third time I've done it, and I haven't ran out of insults yet."
Skye shook her head, Alyssa had only done this once before, she didn't like Alyssa's obsession with hating Justin. Okay, maybe she did. But Alyssa was 23, and once you pass 18, boy bands are usually in the past. But apparently not for Alyssa.

"Okay Alyssa, while your taking out your anger on Justin, want to tell me what's wrong?"
"He's so arrogant!" Alyssa said as she slapped down the first piece, part of his curly hair.
"Haven't you passed through your Timberlake wonder boy phase yet? And I thought you were out with Jake Jensen, tonight."
"He's not a wonder boy!" The next piece. "And I don't like Jake either!" She hit a piece in for Jake also.
"Are you done yet?" Skye asked.
"No. And he's a cheating dog!" Alyssa looked up at Skye, apparently out of insults for the moment. "He cheated on Britney! That's what she called him! A cheating dog!" Alyssa hit another piece into the puzzle at that, just for good measure.

Skye apparently ignored her as she swept all the other puzzle pieces into their box, then she sat at the table beside Alyssa and started arranging the rest of the Justin pieces.

Alyssa picked up the next piece, one of Justin's blue eyes, and slid it into place. "But if that's what he is;" She said softly, "Why is he so sweet? Why doesn't he even act arrogant or conceited?"
Skye took the last piece from Alyssa, and slid Justin's other blue eye into place, then she looked up at Alyssa. "Maybe, because he's just not like that, Lyssa."
