Chapter 1
(August 27, 2001)Ashley Evans sighed as she quickly did the combination to her locker.
"I'm so glad this day is over!"
She pulled off her baby blue backpack, and put in her three blue notebooks, and her blue folder.Someone walked up to her, and Ashley looked up to see one of her best friends, Lauren standing beside her.
"Hey Ash!"
"Hi Lauren. How was your first day of High School?"
"I love this so much more than Jr. High. It's tons better. What about you?"
"Does it really matter what I think? I'm not coming back here." Ashley said, in a kind of sad/happy voice.
"You are so lucky. What did all your teachers say when you told them?" Lauren asked.
Ashley sighed again.
"I wish I didn't have to ask them, I hate talking to teachers." She said as she put her backpack back on, and pulled her baby blue side pack on over it.
"Why are you so shy!?" Lauren asked Ashley.
"I don't know! I just am. I better go now. They will be waiting for me." She said.
"See ya, around. And you have to call me everyday, and no excuses, cause they bought that new cell phone for you."
"Speaking of the stupid thing, it's ringing again. Do you know how many times they've called me today?" She groaned as she pulled out a baby blue cell phone.
Lauren laughed, "It's your own fault. Can you get any more blue on you? From your shirt, to your cell phone"
"But there are just so many blue things!" Ashley laughed, finally answering her phone, "Hello. . . . Hey Superstar, how many times have you guys called today?. . . .I'll be out in just a minute!. . . . Yes I promise. . . .Well tell them to settle down, I know I haven't seen you all in like a. . .day! But, you will just have to wait a minute. Hang on, k?" She put her hand over the cell phone. "I better go, they are waiting outside for me."
"Bye Ashley! Have fun."
"Bye Lauren, call ya later!" Ashley said as she walked away.
She pulled her hand away from the phone,
"OK, Superstar I'm back. . . .Oh, it's you. . . . Yeah, I'm coming. I'll be out in a minute. . . .I'm getting a drink, you guys want anything?. . . No, tell her I'm not getting her any Pepsi, you know how she gets when she has that caffeine. . .Probably Pepsi. . . .I know I don't like it, but my head is killing me! . . .No, not a good day."
She looked up, as she listened to the voice on the other end of the phone, then she saw a familiar person up ahead of her in the hall.
"Ashley!!!" The girl called.
"Hey Amber!. . .Oh no, I wasn't talking to you." Ashley laughed, remembering she was on the phone.
"Hey baby blue girl! Are you talking to him!?" Amber asked walking up to Ashley.
Ashley covered the phone again.
"No, do you wanna talk to him? I'm sure they will let you."
"How well do you know me! I wouldn't give up a chance to bug him for anything!"
"Hey, again. . .yeah . . . .Of course she want's to talk to him . . . .I'll be out soon." Ashley handed the phone to Amber.
"Hey baby!" She yelled into the phone. "Oh, sorry. . .didn't mean to make you deaf. . . . You better take good care of my friend. . . .Yeah, I know. . . .Yep, I'll make sure she gets out there. . . .Uh huh. . .Bye, Bye, Bye baby!" Amber clicked off the cell phone. "Hear ya go! Why are you getting Pepsi? Will you get me a Dr Pepper? Please, Please, Please, Pleas-"
Ashley looked up from getting money out of her baby blue wallet to see a guy pass them, it also happened to be the reason her friend had suddenly become silent.
"He is HOT!" Amber said after he had passed.
Ashley was reminded of that morning, when they had been at the assembly and the Student Body President had asked everyone to stand for the Pledge, Amber had been the first one on her feet, saying "WHATEVER YOU SAY!"
Ashley laughed at the memory, and handed her friend a Dr. Pepper.
"Thank you!! I'll be your best friend forever!"
"Uh huh, whatever you say." Ashley giggled, as none other than the Student Body President walked by and Amber stopped in her tracks to watch him.
"Are you going to come out there with me?" Ashley asked when Amber had recovered.
"Huh? . . . Oh! Yeah! Let's go."
Ashley and Amber walked out the front of the school, and Amber looked up to see a Black Tour bus parked in the School Bus parking spot.
"You think they would get a clue, and bring a Limo or something less noticeable!" Amber said sarcastically.
"This should be interesting." Ashley commented, as the two girls looked at the crowds of High School students crowded around the bus that Ashley was supposed to get on.
Ashley and Amber stood at the back of the crowd looking up at the bus. Just then the bus's door opened and a familiar looking man got out. Without letting anyone in, he pushed his way through the crowd, and ignored the questions of people asking who was in the bus.
He came back to where Ashley and Amber were standing.
"Hi Ash, Hello again Little Miss Attitude."
Ashley giggled, and Amber glared at her.
"Hey Mike." Amber greeted him. "I better get going, see ya Ashley! Call me. Cause you know if you don't, I'll call you."
"Bye Amber. Don't worry, I'll call ya." Ashley said.
"Bye, Bye, Bye Girl!" Amber called as she walked back into the school to meet her friend.
"Thanks for coming out Mike." Ashley said to the man, as they turned to go back into the crowd, so Ashley could get on the tour bus.
"No problem girl, that's my job."
"No, they are your job. Not me." Ashley said as she pointed to the tour bus they were now heading towards.
"Same difference." Mike laughed as they reached the bus, and he opened the door to let Ashley in.
